Heaton Manor Space Camp 2017

National Space Centre, Space Challenger Mission

Leicester University Residential: Wednesday 19th & Thursday 20th July 2017

This trip repeats the fantastic visit that took place in July 2016 when Year 7 and 8 pupils participated in an exciting residential trip to the National Space Centre, Leicester.

We will travel on Wednesday and students will stay in overnight in the student accommodation at the University of Leicester. There will be a tour of the university with student ambassadors during the afternoon and an organised programme of team games. The evening will include some preparation for the following day’s mission.

Thursday will be a full day at the National Space Centre where students will participate in a Space Challenger mission in the Challenger Learning Centre, simulating a ‘Voyage to Mars’. Throughout the Mission, the students will be presented with tasks and realistic dilemmas that require teamwork, problem solving, critical thinking and communication skills. Students will have the opportunity to explore the Space Centre and visit the Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium, the UK’s largest planetarium. Last July, all the students and staff found the visit truly inspirational with fantastic learning opportunities available across the whole programme of activities.

There will be a meeting on Tuesday 17th January 2017 at 6pm at Heaton Manor School where you will have the opportunity to find out more information and ask any questions you may have.
